Canterbury Farmer’s markets come to Cathedral Square
For the very first time, the Canterbury Farmers Markets are coming together in Cathedral Square. As part of the Savour New Zealand Celebrations, over twenty-five stalls from the Lyttelton, Canterbury, Waipara Valley and Oxford Farmers Markets will showcase our regional produce.
The event aptly named Loaves and Fishes will include a cooking demonstration in a purpose built Fisher and Paykel demonstration kitchen. Ray McVinnie, well known celebrity chef from Auckland will share some great cooking tips and tricks.
We’re very excited about being able to showcase some of the finest Canterbury food in a central city setting. People will have a chance to meet the farmers and producers and buy everything from fresh figs to venison and goat’s cheese says Angela Clifford, the event coordinator for Farmers Markets New Zealand. “To be associated with a celebration the calibre of Savour New Zealand is fantastic”.
“Wouldn’t it be great if there was a regular farmer’s market in the CBD at least once a month? – lets hope this provides the catalyst for more” says Astrid Andersen, Event Director for Savour New Zealand”
Savour New Zealand is a showcase of top chefs from around the world including Nancy Oaks from San Fransisco, Tamazin Day Lewis and Tom Parker Bowles from the UK and, Geoff Lindsay from Melbourne.
